Sophie Bloom’s junior year has been a bit of a train wreck. After the world’s greatest kiss re-awakened Sophie’s true identity as Persephone (Goddess of Spring and Savior of Humanity), she fought her dragon-lady guidance counselor to the death, navigated mean girl Bethany’s bitchy troublemaking, and dealt with the betrayal of her backstabbing ex, Kai (sexy Prince of Darkness). You’d think a girl could catch a break.
With Zeus stepping things up, it’s vital that Sophie retrieve Persephone’s memories and discover the location of the ritual to stop Zeus and Hades. So when Aphrodite strikes a deal that can unlock Sophie’s pre-mortal past, what choice does the teen goddess have but to accept?
The mission: stop media mogul Hermes from turning Bethany into a global mega-celebrity. The catch? Aphrodite partners Sophie and Kai to work together … and treat this suicide mission as a date. Which could work out for Sophie’s plan to force Kai to admit his feelings for her–if she doesn’t kill him first.
Add to that the fact that BFF Theo’s love life and other BFF Hannah’s actual life are in Sophie’s hands, and suddenly being a teenager—even a godlike one—seems a bit like … well, hell. Whatever happened to dinner and a movie?
Let me tell you, book two got more awesome! I seriously was giggling and laughing through the entire book. Note: a bit of a spoiler for the ending of book 1 coming up. So after what seemed like a betrayal by Kai, Sophie is not a happy goddess, especially when she finds out the only way to possibly save the world is to “be one” with Kai. Yup, they have to be be in love again.
This book seriously cracks me up, just every single character is fantastic. [Sorry, bit of a spoiler here but] Sophie and Kai somehow end up getting shot with Cupid’s arrow, but they’re pretty determine not to be in love because an arrow shot them. BUT that doesn’t mean they still don’t the ridiculous urge to have to be with each other. So basically stuck hip to hip, Sophie and Kai, along with the gang (Theo, Hannah and Festos (Hephaestus)) they have to help Aphrodite find and stop Hermes in order to get this love spell off of them.
This book is basically a hilarious road trip book as they go around chasing after Hermes. There’s great references…
“She’s Lina Lamount made flesh,” Hannah came forward to whisper to me. She was right Aphrodite had the dubious honor of sounding exactly like our favorite character from Singin’ in the Rain.”
and some good ol’ flirting…
“I shook my head as I smoothed out his shirt. “Who doesn’t want treats first?” I placed my hands on my hip. “Will there be treats on this date?”
Kai smiled. “Yes, me treating you like a queen.”
“Ooh, Nicely done.”
and just plain hilarious moments. I actually love Kai, Theo and Festos all hanging out. Festos is just fabulous. I also liked Sophie better in this book too. I felt like she matured a bit more and is more comfortable with being both Sophie and Persephone. I still quite adore Hannah, the (human) friend, who does crazy things with gods anyway and also has such a scientific view towards almost everything.
Overall, a wonderful addition to the Blooming Goddess Trilogy. I definitely can’t wait for the last book. Hopefully it’s be just as entertaining as this one.
“Your first kiss started the process.”
“How fairy tale,” Festos said.
“Yeah, I’m not digging being downgraded to Disney prince status.” Kai said.
