In My Mailbox post! Hosted by The Story Siren, In My Mailbox is a chance to showcase new books, ones checked out from the library, bought, won or received for review. All summaries taken from either Goodreads or Amazon.
Just a small batch today. My Parasol Protectorate Series is here! and one book for review from Net Galley.
(01) The Parosal Protectorate Series (Soulless) by Gail Carriger
“First, she has no soul. Second, she’s a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.
Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire – and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.
With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London’s high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?”*
Yay! My box set has arrived and I can finish off book 4 and 5 now! I’ve been putting it off so I wouldn’t finish off the whole series in like 3 weeks and go into major withdrawal when the series ended haha. Anyways Parasol Protectorate is a hilarious vampire/werewolf/paranormal series with a nice steampunk feel. Here’s my review for Soulless. Possibly one day I’ll get my review for Changeless and Blameless written up too. Do check out the Manga ver. Vol 1 of Soulless too! *Also, synopsis is only for Soulless because the other books’ synopses are spoiler-ish.
(01) Undeadly by Michele Vail
“The day I turned 16, my boyfriend-to-be died. I brought him back to life. Then things got a little weird…
Molly Bartolucci wants to blend in, date hottie Rick and keep her zombie-raising abilities on the down-low. Then the god Anubis chooses her to become a reaper—and she accidentally undoes the work of another reaper, Rath. Within days, she’s shipped off to the Nekyia Academy, an elite boarding school that trains the best necromancers in the world. And her personal reaping tutor? Rath.
Life at Nekyia has its plusses. Molly has her own personal ghoul, for one. Rick follows her there out of the blue, for another…except, there’s something a little off about him. When students at the academy start to die and Rath disappears, Molly starts to wonder if anything is as it seems. Only one thing is certain—-Molly’s got an undeadly knack for finding trouble….”
So Book 1 of the Reaper Dairies. Sounds like Reapers are sort of the new it things. I’ve seen some mixed reviews/thoughts for this, but it sounds like it can be a pretty good read anyways. The whole “my boyfriend died, than I brought him back from the dead” kind of reminds me of Pushing Daisies (the best TV show ever) so I couldn’t resist. I do love the use of lace on the cover too.
a bum a student again. A master’s student…oooh. procrastinator. reader. eater. sleeper. music listen-er. movie go-er. Loves food too much.
