Musing About Things: Bookish Tag – Summer Lovin’

So I’ve really been procrastinating writing my book reviews, so here’s another book tag instead (and I tag all of you!)

Here is the Summer Lovin’ Book Tag which I snagged from Christy @ Love of Books. The original tag is from Richard’s Book Nook on Youtube.

I choose both a YA and adult (most romance) for each of the categories and these are books I’ve read in 2017!

Start of Summer: Attention-grabbing first sentence

I watched Calamity rise.

Firelight by Brandon Sanderson

&

Delilah Bard – always a thief, recently a magician, and one day, hopefully, a pirate – was running as fast as she could.

A Conjuring of Light by V.E Schwab

Just love these intros! A Conjuring of Light is a great finale to the Shades of Magic series which overall is freaking amazing. I seriously recommended it to everyoooone! And who can resist Brandon Sanderson! Always on point.

Too Hot to Go Outside: Perfect for a day in

Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crawly & Wildfire by Ilona Andrews

Both books were ones that I straight up basically read in a sitting! Grab an ice cold lemonade and some snacks and get ready to hunker in (and read in the sunshine but inside where it’s a little cooler and less risk of sunburn!)

Summer Road Trip: Pick a book you’d take with you

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett & The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband by Julia Quinn

Two very fun, adorable and heartwarming read with a little travelling to keep you in good company while you’re on the road, too!

Iced Tea Goodness: A cold setting

Hunted by Meagan Spooner & Good Boy by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

Finding some cold setting books was a little harder, but when it’s hockey season in Canada you know it’s chilly! And same with Russia…haha

Nasty Sunburn: A book you really disliked

The Last of August by Brittany Cavallaro & The Bad Luck Bride by Janna MacGregor

Unfortunately these two books just didn’t quite work out for me!

Sizzling Read: Recommend a Favorite

The Only Thing Worst Than Me Is You by Lily Anderson & Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas

These books totally hit the good spot! Both perfect summer reads with cuteness and romance and just wonderfulness!

Have you read any of these? Do they fit the categories!

What are some of your favourite summer reads and recommendations!

  1. 1. Your title graphic has me craving peanut butter and banana toast. Is it lunchtime yet?
    2. I *really* need to read Alex, Approximately. It’s just sitting on my shelf giving me puppy dog eyes and looking lonely.
    3. Good Boy needs to happen SOON. Bowen & Kennedy together can do no wrong.
    Fun tag, Cyn! 🙂

I'm surprised you didn't like the Last of August! I'm hoping to read it soon to get my review over with (I've had an arc for AGES) and I thought book 1 was decent, but ergh now I'm finding it harder than ever to start book 2, lol. I love seeing the mix of YA and romance books in your answers!

    1. Great minds think alike 😉
I was hoping to like Last of August since I enjoyed book one but it just didn’t really work for me. Hope you have better luck with it!
      Thanks, Aila!

  7. That opening for A Conjuring of Light had me on edge. I was so desperate to have Lila find Kell. The opening set the tone for the fast paced, action packed book. Alex, Approximately and Good Boy are two books that have been on my most anticipated tbr pile. Both of these books sounds right up my alley so I’m hoping I can tick them off sooner rather than later. 😀

    1. So good, right!! Definitely a good opener 🙂
Hope you enjoy Alex and Good Boy! They’re both such fun reads!

  8. I really struggled with the Bad Luck Bride, too. I think I gave it a 3 but was generous on that. Ah well. Pretty cover on it.

Love the cover for Alex, Approximately! That looks very good!

    1. Alex was super fun! Highly recommend! I love the cover too 😀

  9. This is a great list. Alex, Approximately is in my tbr pile thanks to all the love in the blogosphere.

  10. Oooh, that opening line for A Conjuring of Light. Such a great opening! I’ve got a copy of Good Boy sitting on my ereader just waiting to be read; clearly I should pick it up when I need to escape the heat and humidity of the summer!
