Musing About Things: TBR list Shame

musing-about-things-bookmunchies-v3

Hi guys, welcome to Book Munchies’ Musing about Things: A Discussion (Post). Inspired by memes such as Books and a Beat‘s Musing Monday & Caffeinated Book Reviewer‘s Caffeinated Confessions (etc.), this is a Book Munchies discussion post, where I’ll be rambling about (mostly) book-related things and hopefully you guys will join in on the fun too (:
……………….

So today’s topic is: To-Be-Read list Shame (aka. the books you meant to read years ago and for some unknown read haven’t gotten to them yet)

I’m not ashamed to say I have an exploding to-be-read list that even with all the time in the world, I would not put a dent into it. That being said, there are definitely a few authors/books that I’ve literally been meaning to read for yeeeeears and it just hasn’t happened.

Here are a few of those books/authors that I’m a bit a shame to say I haven’t read yet:

I love, love, love cute adorable summery YA contemporary and yet I still haven’t read any Emery Lord ): I even own The Start of You and Me /sigh. Everyone says they’re amazing and I really really am planning on reading one soon. I think it’s the fear that it might not live up to the expectation!?!?

Maggie Stiefvater, a well-beloved author that I haven’t read it. I literally have been meaning to read The Raven Boys since it was published in 2012, oops. Can I use the excuse that I was waiting for the series to complete before binge reading it??

Laini Taylor. I recently got Strange the Dreamer and I’m super excited to read it! I don’t how I still haven’t read Daughter of Smoke and Bone, since it really does sound right up my ally. /failure

Another author of cute contemporary YA novels that I  haven’t read. Everyone seems to really enjoy Jenny Han and I love the sounds of To All the Boys I’ve loved Before! I had every intention of reading it when it came out but than more came out and I figure it was just best to wait for the rest of the series…yeah, I totally meant to do that,

But hey! I’m not a failure all the time! Here’s some authors that I finally got around to checking out!

Jill Shalvis and Ilona Andrews are pretty big name authors that I finally got read and I need to kick myself a little bit for wait for so long to check them out! Okay, Becky Albertalli wasn’t a super long wait, though it did take me almost two years before I read Simon. But man, was I happy to have corrected that mistake! And I’m so glad I finally got around to reading Jessica Khoury! Her books always sounded amazing and I loved The Forbidden Wish! And My Lady Jane was a perfect book for me to hit up 3 authors in one shot (Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows)!

…..

Do you have a lot (or a few) authors or books that you feel a bit ashamed that you haven’t gotten to yet?

Who are these lovely authors/fantastic books that need a little more love from you?

Did you finally get to some books/authors that have been on your TBR for too long? (PS. high five!)

PS. Please don’t actually feel ashamed that you haven’t gotten to a book or author yet! Sometimes that’s the way life rolls and that’s okay (:

  1. Love this!! I had a post in January with 9 authors I want to finally read this year. I think I have knocked off 4 or 5. I still need to read Lauren Layne and Sarah Ockler. I just read Emery Lord this year and LOVED When We Collided. I have read To All the Boys but still need to read more Jenny Haan. Great post and hope you get to these authors!!

  2. Oh those TBRs! I think I did the math and figured out with just the books I have listed it would take me 33 years to read them all – provided I add no new books between now and then. My focus this year was on reading some of the books I’ve really been wanting to read but keep getting pushed off. So far I’ve done okay though that list seems so endless! Jill Shalvis is a favorite and I really want to try Maggie Stiefvater. I love the look of The Raven Boys. Great topic!

  3. One of my really old books (from 2014) is from Tana French, In the Woods. I am determined to get to it…sometime.

Enjoy a shameless future. Here’s MY MUSING MONDAYS POST

  4. Some of these authors are on my TBR list. I am ashamed to admit that I’ve lost my place in series from Marilyn Meredith, F.M. Meredith, Karen White, Jon Land and others. Going back to work really killed my reading time. I hoped this would be the year I caught up, but it’s not looking like it.

  5. Oh my, I don’t really want to think about all those on my shelves and in tubs that haven’t been read yet…lol.

  6. Ooh yes I had Maggie Steifvater on my TBR for a while now as well, but I’m a bit scared to start on The Raven Cycle series and not liking it like everyone else who loved the series. I think you’ll like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Super cute fluff read.

George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series I’ve been meaning to read, but the 1000+ pages looks intimidating and what if the middle ends up boring? I’ve also been meaning to read Jandy Nelson’s I’ll Give You the Sun, which I feel like I’ve had on my shelf forever, buuuttt….and also The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon. I loved Everything, Everything but I heard mixed things about her second book that it’s been set back from my TBR list.

  7. I’ve had Burn For Me by Ilona Andrews on my tbr for quite a while now, I love the Kate Daniels series so I’ve been looking forward to reading Burn For Me. Another book that’s been on my tbr for a while would be The Wrath and the Dawn, I think I’ve had that on my tbr since it was first announced it was getting published and I still haven’t read it yet. On a lighter note I’ve been making my way through the Mistborn trilogy for the last month and they had been on my tbr for a long time so I’m glad I’ve finally started the series.

  8. Emery Lord is the best and I will forever nudge you to read these books. 😉

  9. Jill Shalvis and Ilona Andrews are amazing. Two of my favorites for sure. I have a huge list of book and authors that I have been meaning to read and want to read but never seem to find the time. Laini Taylor tops that list along with a few more. I keep thinking that I can catch up when I retire but that isn’t happening for a long time.

  10. LOL, I have a few of these in my pile too. I recently donated a ton of YA books most were trilogies where I never read the third book..LOL

  11. Oh man. Yes. The list of need to reads is endless and always growing. Woohoo on Andrews and Shavlis. Love them both 😀

  12. There are just too many to name, Cyn! Becky Albertalli is definitely up there for me, and somehow I still haven’t finished Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy…nor have I picked up Strange the Dreamer yet. *hangs head in shame*

  13. I’ve been dying to get my hands on a book by V.E. Schwab! I’ve got around three books of hers on my shelf, but I haven’t been in the mood to pick them up yet. Work in the day stressed me out, to the point where I just want to sleep when I get back home. Occasionally, over a long weekend, I’ll read – but I haven’t felt like Schwab yet.

  14. This is such a fun topic! I have a lot of TBR Shame too. I’m a huge Maggie and Laini fan. I hope you get a chance to read some of their books soon. I just binged all the To All the Boys books and LOVED them! They were so fun. I had read The Summer I Turned Pretty a few years ago and I didn’t like it much. I’m happy I gave Jenny Han another chance.
