Musing About Things: Ten Bookworm Confessions

musing-about-things-bookmunchies-v3

Hi guys, welcome to Book Munchies’ Musing about Things: A Discussion (Post). Inspired by memes such as Books and a Beat‘s Musing Monday & Caffeinated Book Reviewer‘s Caffeinated Confessions (etc.), this is a Book Munchies discussion post, where I’ll be rambling about (mostly) book-related things and hopefully you guys will join in on the fun too (:
……………….

1. I tend to buy books with pretty covers and never read them.

2. Despite having so many bookmarks, sometimes I get too lazy to use one and will dog ear the pages.

3. Sometimes I will wait for paperbacks to come out because of the pretty cover changes and not because they are cheaper than hard covers (okay, sometimes because they are also cheaper than the hard covers)..

4. While I love going to book fests I can never bring myself to go to an author signing at the bookstores because my introvert-ness will kick in and say nope not gonna happen.

5. Even if I didn’t like one of the author’s books before I usually give the author another chance because the summary of their next book sounds like my jam.

6. I dislike books to movie adaptations because they’re almost always 95% wrong of the times.

7. I like going to bookish events for mostly the swag. Bookish swag is always the best.

8. I’ll most likely end up reading the sequels even if I didn’t like the first book because maybe they’ll improve with the next book, right?

9. It makes me sad when people pick up a book because they heard there was gonna be a movie and it got them super curious. (PS Okay I’m one of them…sometimes, but I only read it because the emotional factor in books is different than in movies.)

10. I rarely cry when I’m reading and apparently just make “weird” faces at the super emotional scenes.

So, I own it to my confessions and now it’s your turn. What are some of your bookworm confessions?

  1. I wish I lived somewhere that held book events with free swag! We have no swag!

OK, since we’re sharing book confessions then:

    1. I create mega lists and spreadsheets of books I want to read, and then I ignore all of it once I get to a library or a book store and choose something completely at random.

    2. I once had the opportunity to meet two of my favourite authors. But I was so scared that I’d make an idiot of myself and it would spoil how I felt about reading any of their books that I chickened out and refused to go.

    1. Yes, sometimes I do this too. Like I’d write down the title of the book that I want to remember to check out on a post it but then would forget all about it when I go to work the next day until I leave work and be like oh yeah I was supposed to check out that book.

Nooo! Next time go meet your favorite authors otherwise you might regret not meeting them when you had the chance to just because you were afraid of being awkward.

  2. I am with you on buying pretty covers . . . and then they sit on my shelf!! I also never buy books full price unless I have a gift card. Otherwise they have to be on sale or from Book Outlet. Great confessions!!

  3. My bookworm confession is that I often read the last page of a book first! Why do I always spoil things for myself??

    1. Reading the last page of a book first is a great way to motivate yourself to finishing the book that way if you hated the book you at least how it’s going to end. Though I still do that sometimes mostly to see if my ship ends up together.

  4. #’s 3 and 5- so true! And #6- oh my gosh yes I am so hard on book to movie adaptations and when they’re not faithful to the book it aggravates me lol. And book events are always fun. 🙂

    1. It’s is aggravating. I wish I can turn that part off whenever I’m watching a book to movie adaptation, but unless I watched the movie first and then read the book I know I’m never going to like the movie better than the book.

  5. I’ll sometimes read another book by an author whose first book I didn’t enjoy, but it depends on the reasons I didn’t love the first boo. If it was just the premise, for example, and overall the prose was strong and the characters well-developed, for example, I’ll give the author a second chance. If it’s something that I don’t think would be different in a new book, I pass.

  6. Uhhhmmm…I think I do #1 too. I love buying pretty bookmarks…but I never use them. #4 is kinda me, too. I have gone twice to Texas Teen Book Festival. I’d like the record to state that my introvert-ness was slightly overcome only because my librarian hauled me there with her, and that made it easier on the introvert-ness. I’ve attended one book signing (not even for an author I knew or had read), again forced by my librarian. I was a little overwhelmed because it was downtown Austin and there were hundreds of people in a small space and my back started hurting after standing for thirty minutes with my 25 pound purse on my arm. I also try to do #8.

  7. Oh my gosh…I buy so many books that I don’t read. I want to but I just don’t have the time. I never dog ear pages but usually just use some random piece of paper for a bookmark. I am not a fan of swag. Fun list!

  8. I completely relate with the series one! Unless I really disliked the first book and don’t care to know how the story develops I’ll read the rest of the series because of course it’ll get better! I love this list!
