Love takes the stage...
Elise deVries is not what she seems. By night, the actress captivates London theatergoers with her chameleon-like ability to slip inside her characters. By day, she uses her mastery of disguise to work undercover for Chegarre & Associates, an elite agency known for its discreet handling of indelicate scandals. But when Elise is tasked with locating the missing Duke of Ashland, she finds herself center stage in a real-life drama.
Noah Ellery left the glamour of the London aristocracy to pursue a simpler life in the country. He's managed to avoid any complications or entanglements—that is, until he lays eyes on Elise and realizes there's more to this beautiful woman than meets the eye. But when Elise reveals her real identity—and her true feelings for him—the runaway duke must confront the past he left behind . . . to keep the woman he loves forever.

Elise is queen. Seriously so girl-crush worthy.
And Noah is so adorable.
And together they win all the hearts.

I just found this book right up my alley and it was just so endearing! Elise is an ex-tracker for the British army now turn actress/disguise genius working for Chegarre & Associates, an agency that knows how to discreetly handle scandal. She’s sent on a job to find a lost duke, who doesn’t necessarily want to be found.

Elise is brave, and brilliant, and so kick-ass. She’s a bit unconventional and I love that she’s so competent! I can see why our hero Noah falls head-over-heels for her.

“No, you can’t have my horse.” she muttered […] “I need it to flee a lot of awkward questions.”

Admittedly it’s a bit insta-love when they first meet, but they’re so freak’n cute and I felt like their relationship really did develop well later on that I can wholeheartedly love them. I liked that Elise pushes Noah to face his fears. And I loved that Noah battles Elise doubts about them together by fighting for her. Noah, our lost duke was really interesting. I liked his background story. And overall, he’s pretty darn amazing too. He’s totally your sweet guy hero and is so charming.

“You’re so much more than just a girl with a gun.” He said it fiercely and with such passion that she felt her stomach drop and her pulse race. “I see you, Elise DeVries. No matter what clothes you might wear or what mask you might assume, I see your courageous heart and I see your beautiful mind. I see your compassion and your hope, your resilience and your strength. If you do not know who you are, know that I do.”

With the romance, there’s also the story behind the lost duke that got me invested. There’s a collection of secondary characters that were both intriguing and entertaining. Overall, this was a delightful read with a sweet and endearing couple. I’m a sucker for a super adorable romance.

(Quote-tastic quote!)

“Because when you left, you took my heart with you.” Not waiting for her to respond, he caught her face in his hands and kissed her softly. “You took my soul, you took my very life with you. And I can’t live without you.”

About Kelly Bowen

Kelly Bowen grew up in Manitoba, Canada. She worked her way through her teenage years as a back country trail guide and ranch hand. She attended the University of Manitoba and earned a Master of Science degree in veterinary physiology and endocrinology.

But it was Kelly's infatuation with history and a weakness for a good love story that led her down the path of historical romance. When she is not writing, she seizes every opportunity to explore ruins and battlefields.

Currently, Kelly lives in Winnipeg with her husband and two boys, all of whom are wonderfully patient with the writing process. Except, that is, when they need a goalie for street hockey.
