Romantic Thursday: To All The Rakes I’ve Loved Before by Anne Barton

Romantic Thursday
It’s Romantic Thursday with Bookmunchie! So why is Thursday romantic? Because I like Thursday and I like romance! Basically, I just love romance, in YA books, in adult, contemporary, historical, whichever the genre and sometimes I’m too lazy to write full reviews but I do love sharing fun quotes or just gushing about characters. So that’s what Romantic Thursday is for! To share my love. May it be through actual full reviews, quick reviews, or just fun quotes.

After being jilted by her former beau, Miss Amelia Wimple retreated to her Mayfair town house and her ever-growing collection of gossips rags. Now, almost two years later, not even her beloved cousins, Rose and Olivia Sherbourne, can persuade her to give love another chance. But an unexpected midnight caller may open her heart once more.

Lord Stephen Brookes is the prince of pleasure, the duke of decadence-and it seems his exploits have finally caught up with him. When Stephen comes to Amelia seeking refuge, she can’t deny him . . . or the intense desire he sparks. As he attempts to heal her broken heart, they indulge in a private passion unlike anything either has experienced. Stephen knows sweet, sensual Amelia is meant to be his one and only. Now, he will do whatever it takes to convince her that a rake really can change his ways.

Review:

After an inconspicuous but slightly embarrassing jilting, Amelia escapes from society and the gossip rags, content with hiding away and writing her own little gossip rag. That is until a night full of unexpected surprises pulls her out of her little world. Enter Lord Stephen Brookes, who shows up to Amelia’s Mayfair home, battered and beaten. With only Amelia to help with his injuries, the two build a sweet and adorable bond.

“I know. But after last night I realized something. You are an amazing woman, and you deserve to see more of the world. Conversely, the world needs to see more of you.” (47% ARC)

Tell me, how wonderful and thoughtful is that? Pretty sure I swooned. I adore their relationship because they bring the best out of each other. I love that Stephen tries to be a better person for Amelia but also tries to make her believe more in herself too. Also nothing makes me happier than having stupid misunderstanding resolved quickly! I also loved Amelia’s third person little snippets of her gossip insight into her life, too cute.

Overall, it was an utterly sweet romance with two wonderful people. A lovely addition to the Honeycote series and a good reminder to why I really enjoyed When She Was Wicked & why I’m looking forward to Once She Was Tempted.  Definitely recommended if you’re in need of a short adorable romance.

  1. I just reviewed this one on my blog and thought it was sooo adorable. It really surprised me because I’m not a novella fan but I’m totally an Anne Barton fan now.
