Weekly Wrap Up (28)

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap-up with Bookmunchies. This is our weekly update that combines Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer‘s SUNDAY POST and Tynga’s Reviews‘ STACKING THE SHELVES. This is a post to share news, to recap the week on the blog, share new reads and new books, and upcoming fun for the week ahead!

Hey guys, Jackie here,

It’s been another long week at work but that’s probably because of the 3 day weekend. Although I can’t really complain about the 3 day weekend because I like my extra day of sleeping in. However, it’s been a pretty long week even though Tuesday seemed like it moved quickly. Its been both a good reading week and a bad reading week. The good part is that I’ve been reading, but the bad part is they’re books that I haven’t really liked all that much even though I wanted to like them. I think it’s the hype that’s surrounding some of the books that are giving me these meh feelings because I don’t want to be disappointed by the amazing things people have said about it. Although I haven’t really liked This Savage Song so I really wasn’t surprised about my feelings for Our Dark Duet. I really have no idea what was going on until the last hundred pages of the book. However, I think I’m going to give myself a bit of a breather before diving into Wonder Woman. I’ve started a few pages of it but it hasn’t intrigued me just yet and I think part of the problem is that I don’t know her quite well to say I’m a fan and I must read it. It’s more like I must read it because the excitement.

Here at Bookmunchies we believe in being surprises for the week
(aka. we procrastinate, so we can’t tell you what’s quite coming up yet).
(:

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli: 4 of 5 stars – Diverse problems that didn’t feel like they were problems. I was totally shipping Molly and Reid though.
Wesley James Ruined My Life by Jennifer Honeybourn: 3 of 5 stars – This book made me dislike the hate to love trope a bit because Quinn’s hatred for Wesley was pretty lame.
Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab: 3 of 5 stars – Kind of a blurry read for me, but that ending…

BORROWED:

1. Fireblood by Elly Blake – I was surprised that my library got this book before the actual release date, which I didn’t realize it was supposed to come out on the 12th.
2. Even the Darkest Stars by Heather Facett

  1. I always find it odd that a short work week feels long. LOL Sorry the books you’re reading aren’t fulfilling the hype. That’s why I sometimes avoid the new releases that are being raved about. Waiting for a mix of reviews helps me decide and saves me some money.

  2. I hate when I get in a phase of meh books. Hopefully the next book you pick up is amazing. These short weeks never quite feel short. I had forgotten that it was until I saw someone mention it yesterday. Have a great week!

  3. Oh sorry to hear about your week, reading-wise. I hope this week is so much better. I’ve limited the ARCs so I can read the ones I want to read and it’s been great so far. 😁

  4. Have a wonderful week. ❤️

  5. My week ended up flying by! I’ve gotten my extra sleep in this weekend. I haven’t had ANY time to read at all. I don’t think I’m ever going to finish a book this month. I avoid new releases because of hype. I definitely think it is a sensationalized feeling that promotes FOMO. Hopefully, your next read is better.

  6. I hate it when I am really excited about a book and it doesn’t quite live up to my expectations. I cannot wait to read Fireblood! I hope you have a great week with lots of great reads!

  7. I understand what you mean about the hype. I think sometimes I set my expectations too high for a book because of all the praise I’ve heard.
    Have a great week!

  8. I liked Upside, but you pretty much nailed what it was that kept me from giving it 5 stars.
