Weekly Wrap Up (39)

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap-up with Bookmunchies. This is our weekly update that combines Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer‘s SUNDAY POST and Tynga’s Reviews‘ STACKING THE SHELVES. This is a post to share news, to recap the week on the blog, share new reads and new books, and upcoming fun for the week ahead!

Hey guys, Jackie here,

I’ve returned from my vacation, which didn’t turn out to be a vacation. Never go on vacation when you’re sick because you won’t have fun. I had a little cold a couple of days before my trip to Japan and thought I was getting better halfway through the trip but it ended up becoming pneumonia. But anyways, I had fun in Okinawa. The food was great (I’m still thinking about the Okinawa soba and the Beni-imo ice cream) and the beaches was so pretty (and unpolluted unlike Santa Monica). I’m still a bit puzzled about how the sun always comes up at 6AM, but none of the shops are open until 10AM. Anyways, I was hoping to get better before we got to Tokyo, but on the last day of Okinawa my body decide to hate me and yeppp I ended up in a hospital in Tokyo for the last two days of my vacation. So no shopping for me during this entire trip. But, thanks to my sister and mom for picking up some things despite being worrying about me. It’s interesting to see how hospitals are run in Japan and they serve pretty good hospital food too, if you don’t mind eating plain congee everyday. So after getting back home, I ended up in the hospital for a week just doing tests after tests. It was a nightmare and an exhausting one because sometimes waiting for the nurse to get you back to your room is even more tiring than doing the test itself. They also transferred me to the hospital nearby, which I’m still wowed by not only their services but at their food selections (their tacos and the apple shake drink were my favorites). Anyways so I stayed at 3 different hospitals in a week and when I told my friend this he says he doesn’t know how I do this because he hates hospital and I don’t know either. But, then again going in and out of hospitals has always been a norm for me growing up.

But I got out before Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving this year my dad brought home turkey, so now we have leftover turkey for lunch next week. Do you guys have any Thanksgiving tradition you like to do? I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.

Here at Bookmunchies we believe in being surprises for the week
(aka. we procrastinate, so we can’t tell you what’s quite coming up yet).

Fireblood by Elly Blake (3 stars): I think I might need to reread this book because I totally forgot what happened and yes, there’s a love triangle of sorts…

The Ship of the Dead by Rick Riordan (5 stars): The ending of another great series. I’m already missing Magnus and Alex’s banters and fluff.

Invictus by Ryan Graudin (4 stars): There were times the plot in this book dragged, but I liked the Doctor Who references and enjoyed the twists.

Coming up for Air by Miranda Kenneally (5 stars): I needed something fluffy and Miranda Kenneally never fail to deliver in her Hundred Oaks series. Those awkward moments though.

1. The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

1. Renegades by Marissa Meyer
2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

  4. Awe, sorry to hear your trip didn’t turn out like you were hoping it would. I hope that you are feeling better though. Hopefully this week will be a much better one for you. 🙂

    1. It was a bummer, but thank you.

  5. Having a cold while on vacation is the worst!!! Because you just can’t enjoy it like you want to. Hope you are feeling better!!

    1. So true especially if it’s a vacation you’ve been looking forward to. Thank you.

  6. Oh, Jackie, that’s awful! The worst way to end a vacation. I hope all the tests came back alright. I hope you are feeling much better and back to yourself. The only Thanksgiving tradition we have in my family is that my mom is the dressing maker. Nobody knows how to do it like my mom, so she’s this dressing maker machine the night before Thanksgiving. Seriously, we’ll start at like 4 or 5 in the afternoon and make HUGE pans of it – multiple pans for all of the different family members’ Thanksgivings. It’s a big undertaking, and I end up eating a TON of cornbread before the dressing is even made.

    1. I’m still waiting on some tests, but thank you. Sounds like a big Thanksgiving feast at your house with lots of yummy cornbread.

  7. So sorry to hear about your hospital stay. That’s just awful. And three hospitals in one week? Crazy. I’m glad you’re doing better. And it sounds like you still enjoyed your trip to Japan, at least for a little while. That’s positive right?! 😉
Good to hear your Thanksgiving was still good.
Have a good week and happy reading1

  8. Goodness. You were in the hospital? And in a place not where you leave… that is so terrible. I hope you’re doing better!

I’ve been avoiding Fireblood because of that ridiculous love triangle! Heck, I might not even finish the series. I loved Frostblood but I hate love triangles. D:

I hope you enjoy all of your new books! Have a fabulous week, Jackie. =)

    Check out my STS post!

  9. Sorry you got sick on vacation. It sounds like an interesting trip, though. Have a great week and feel better soon!

  10. Oh no! So sorry to hear about how sick you were on vacation though finding out how hospitals run in Japan does sound interesting if not quite the vacation you were hoping for! Hope you’re feeling better. I know pneumonia takes a lot out of you for awhile. Have a great week and get some rest.
