Amber Sand is not a witch. The Sand family Wicca gene somehow leapfrogged over her. But she did get one highly specific magical talent: she can see true love. As a matchmaker, Amber's pretty far down the sorcery food chain (even birthday party magicians rank higher), but after five seconds of eye contact, she can envision anyone's soul mate.
Amber works at her mother's magic shop--Windy City Magic--in downtown Chicago, and she's confident she's seen every kind of happy ending there is: except for one--her own. (The Fates are tricky jerks that way.) So when Charlie Blitzman, the mayor's son and most-desired boy in school, comes to her for help finding his father's missing girlfriend, she's distressed to find herself falling for him. Because while she can't see her own match, she can see his--and it's not Amber. How can she, an honest peddler of true love, pursue a boy she knows full well isn't her match?
The Best Kind of Magic is set in urban Chicago and will appeal to readers who long for magic in the real world. With a sharp-witted and sassy heroine, a quirky cast of mystical beings, and a heady dose of adventure, this novel will have you laughing out loud and questioning your belief in happy endings.

Guest Post with Crystal Cestari!

The Best Kind of Magic is set in Chicago! What are the best date activities (in Chicago) to take your crush on?

If I had to plan my perfect date night in Chicago, I’d start with dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Carnivale. It’s a Latin fusion eatery with décor ripped straight from a rainbow. I’d then want to catch a show in the theater district; Broadway in Chicago always has an amazing lineup of musicals and plays (I recently saw Hamilton and still haven’t fully recovered). I’d end the night with a walk by Lake Michigan, admiring the skyline and snuggling into my date. Chicago really does have the ideal balance of entertainment options, so you really can’t go wrong!

Our heroine Amber is almost-sorta a witch. What are your favourite witch movies and books?

While Harry Potter is of course the most epic choice for witchy stories, my personal favorite still has to go to Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s portrayal of Willow’s witchcraft journey. Watching her learn to become a witch and then struggle with her newfound power was so heartbreaking and real. The series did an amazing job showcasing a colorful cast of supernatural creatures and those stories had a huge impact on me.

The book is full of interest magical/paranormal creatures characters! Who are your favourites from across the fandoms?

Some of my favorite witches/magically inclined characters include:

Willow Rosenberg – all hail

Hermione Granger – the brightest witch of her age for a reason!

Bonnie Bennet (The Vampire Diaries) – crazy tough and powerful

Elphaba (Wicked) – defy that gravity, girl!

Sabrina Spellman (Sabrina the Teenage Witch) – so silly and fun

About Crystal Cestari

Writing has been my jam since I was very young. In fact, in fifth grade we filled out a profile declaring what we would be doing as adults. I wrote I wanted to be an author because: "I love reading and stories, and want to share that love." My elementary-school self was very wise, because that sentiment holds true today.

I live just outside Chicago with my daughter. My likes include ice cream and bulldogs, and dislikes span from broccoli to wet sneakers on linoleum (the worst). I always carry around a notebook to scribble down ideas. Writing longhand works best for me (even though it's the slowest method ever) because looking at a blank piece of paper is somehow less intimidating than a blank screen. Plus, there are so many pretty notebooks and pens to doodle with!

I’d love to have her power, to be able to see if people are meant to be together or not, but I’d love to also extend it to friendships, business partnerships etc!

    How cool!

I have a Canadian address but I’m doing a semester abroad so my IP address might not show up as Canadian
