Ooh, Pretty: Penguin Drop Caps

Ooh, Pretty

Welcome to Ooh, Pretty! A meme that features beautiful book covers! This meme is to share beautiful / interesting books covers that we’ve found and want to share! Everyone loves a pretty cover, right?

So this week I’m featuring Penguin Drop Caps! Drop Caps you say? What are those?! Well according to their website,

Penguin Drop Caps is a series of twenty-six collectible hardcover editions of fine works of literature, each featuring on its cover a specially commissioned illustrated letter of the alphabet by type designer Jessica Hische. A collaboration between Jessica Hische and Penguin Art Director Paul Buckley, whose series design encompasses a rainbow-hued spectrum across all twenty-six books, Penguin Drop Caps debuted with an ‘A’ for Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, a ‘B’ for Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, and a ‘C’ for Willa Cather’s My Ántonia, and continues with more perennial classics from Penguin.

TLDR; they’re classics with pretty typography/single letter covers from authors from A to Z.

Anyways, how absolutely gorgeous are these? I want them all! Except it would cost a fortune, but look at those amazing fonts and all those colours! If you are wanting to buy a few (or all) you can check out Penguin’s Drop Cap page for links. They vary around $20-26 on the site. I’m not sure which I even like best. I think maybe G for Goldman, b/c it’s perfect for Lord of the Flies. I’m also a fan of Q, S, V, X & Z haha. Anyway, which ones do you guys like?
