Ooh, Pretty: Random House Vintage Classics

Ooh, Pretty

Welcome to Ooh, Pretty! A meme that features beautiful book covers! This meme is to share beautiful / interesting books covers that we’ve found and want to share! Everyone loves a pretty cover, right?

Apparently I’m really into the class relaunches haha, they’re just so pretty! This week I’m sharing a few of my favourite from the 2007 relaunched of Vintage Classic (Random House UK).Some info (from The Guardian [in parts]):

The new-look Vintage Classics will have fresh cover designs with “approachable but iconic” images to appeal to book lovers, which the publisher believes will contrast with the often more traditional Penguin covers.

Vintage then trialled prototypes of its rebranded classics, only to be told that readers wanted more “simple and approachable” jackets. The publisher eventually chose a single “iconic” image for each cover. “We want them to appeal to people who might be going into a bookshop to buy Zadie Smith’s new novel,” Ms Cugnoni said. “So they need to be fresh, classy and tasteful.” The marketing campaign for the series will have a bigger budget than the launch of a new thriller by Dan Brown or Thomas Harris.

So here are a few of my favourites from the relaunch:

[vintage] Gulliver's Travels - Jonathan Swift[vintage] Moby Dick - Herman Merville

[vintage] Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen[vintage] Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen

[vintage] The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Mark Twain[vintage] The Complete Fairy Tales - Grimm Brothers

[vintage] Journey to the Centre of the Earth - Jules Verne

[vintage] Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea - Jules Verne

I think the Moby Dick one is amazing (along with the similar styled Gulliver’s travel)! And I really like the pattern/textures of the Austen ones. They’re simple, but they stand out. I’m super tempted to get the Pride & Prejudice one haha. Also, so much colours for the Jules Verne books!

I also like the standardize logo of VINTAGE [AUTHOR’S NAME]. It tells us these classics are a set without having to stick to one style for the books (though it looks like they keep similar styles for all books of one author). Anyways if you’re interested in seeing the rest/more of the cool covers,  you can check out Random House UK and their entire Vintage Classic collection to see HERE.

I love how all the publishing houses are starting to revamp all their classic books, it makes me want to buy all new copies-which I’m sure was their goal in the first place, ha! Gorgeous covers, though!

    1. Me too! It’s definitely very temping and hard to resist haha.

  2. I adore the new covers. I actually re-bought all of Jane Austen’s even though I already had two sets of them already. I don’t think you can ever have too much Austen 🙂

    1. That’s awesome! Which edition did you grab? I’m thinking of picking up some of the water colour covers, or possibly these ones (:

      1. I got the ones that you listed above to add to my original Penguin Classics ones and an omnibus.

        1. The watercolour ones are gorgeous.

        2. Ooh, that’s awesome! I almost picked up this Pride and Prejudice, but I ended up recently picking up all the Jane Austen watercolour ones.

  3. I love those classic covers, they look beautiful! I’ve got some of those Vintage classics myself because they look so awesome.

    1. I love the seeing the new designs and interpretations! Yay, they probably look really pretty on your shelf 😉 I’m slowly picking up some too.
