On the night of the Parkhurst ball, someone had a scandalous tryst in the library.
•Was it Lord Canby, with the maid, on the divan?
•Or Miss Fairchild, with a rake, against the wall?
•Perhaps the butler did it.

All Charlotte Highwood knows is this: it wasn’t her. But rumors to the contrary are buzzing. Unless she can discover the lovers’ true identity, she’ll be forced to marry Piers Brandon, Lord Granville—the coldest, most arrogantly handsome gentleman she’s ever had the misfortune to embrace. When it comes to emotion, the man hasn’t got a clue.

But as they set about finding the mystery lovers, Piers reveals a few secrets of his own. The oh-so-proper marquess can pick locks, land punches, tease with sly wit … and melt a woman’s knees with a single kiss. The only thing he guards more fiercely than Charlotte’s safety is the truth about his dark past.

Their passion is intense. The danger is real. Soon Charlotte’s feeling torn. Will she risk all to prove her innocence? Or surrender it to a man who’s sworn to never love?

What do you do when one of your favourite author takes two characters (one that I love love, one that I’m intrigued by) from two series that you love, and throw them together and give them a happy ending? Aaaand it’s kinda like Regency Clue?!

You throw confetti!

Desperate mothers called for desperate measures.

Our ever spirited Charlotte Highwood (of Spindle Cove) has reached an age where marriage is on the horizon! In an attempt to stay out of trouble, Charlotte of course ends up right in the middle of it instead with Piers Brandon (of Say Yes to the Marquess). I love the scandal that the two get into and I love it even more that Charlotte tries to save Piers by solving the case.

I quite enjoyed the chemistry between Charlotte and Piers. Charlotte is so feisty and bright! Piers on the other hand, is broody and straitlaced.  And I love nothing more than when the heroine bamboozles the hero with the power of love.

“I’m not a boy, Charlotte. I’m a man. A man who’s been trusted with royal secrets, battle plans, and international treaties. And now…I’m seized by then notion that yo’re the most precious thing I’ve ever held.” His eyes burned into hers. “You’re mine now.”

Piers was actually an interesting hero for me. I wasn’t sure how much I would like him because while he is a good guy, he’s also a bit manipulative and definitely not a perfect hero. But in the end, I felt like he managed to redeem himself to be the perfect hero for Charlotte.

I love Charlotte, she’s got a good head on her shoulder. Her sass and her determination makes you want to root for her. She’s full of sarcasm and love and did I mention she’s sassy?

“I though the eyebrow oracle revealed all.”

“Yes, well. It’s difficult to look at your eyebrow when your head is so far up your arse.”

Overall, this was an adorably entertaining read with Tessa Dare’s signature charm. While it wasn’t all fun and games (with some deception and lies), it was a whirlwind adventure going with Charlotte to figure out who the scandalous couple was with some pretty funny mishaps and unexpected situations. I liked that we got a visit from our old friends from the previous books and it seems Dare as set us up nicely for a new series that I’m definitely looking forward to.

She unsettled him; he anchored her. Together, they could be more than they were apart.

“They will be waiting on us, your mother and brother-in-law and Sir Vernon. I can’t let you leave the room looking like that.”

Self-conscious, she touched a hand to her hair. “Looking like what?”

He pulled her into his arms. “Unkissed.”

Her heart pounded so hard it would burst. No one had warned her it would be like this. Love was supposed to feel good. Wasn’t it? Not terrifying. Perhaps this wasn’t love after all, but malaria.

  6. I have been waiting for Piers’ story (because my husband’s name is Pierre ehemm) since Say Yes to the Marquess BUT I am having a hard time connecting with Charlotte. She does seem so flighty for me. Although I am still a few chapters in, so this may change.
