Romantic Thursday Review: Hard Knocks by Lori Foster

Romantic ThursdayIt’s Romantic Thursday with Bookmunchies! So why is Thursday romantic? Because I like Thursday and I like romance! Basically, I just love romance, in YA books, in adult, contemporary, historical, whichever the genre and sometimes I’m too lazy to write full reviews but I do love sharing fun quotes or just gushing about characters. So that’s what Romantic Thursday is for! To share my love. May it be through actual full reviews, quick reviews, or just fun quotes.

In the stunning prequel novella to her new mixed martial arts series, New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster brings together an elite fighter and the woman he’s determined to win.

Power. Brute strength. Unforgettable moves. It’s no wonder Harper Gates hasn’t been able to get her fling with Gage “Savage” Ringer out of her head. Months have passed since she laid eyes—or any other body parts—on him. Months without a word of contact… until, sidelined by injury, he comes back to town.

Staying focused on his training seemed like a smart move to Gage, even if he thought about Harper every day. Seeing her again only makes it clear how much is at stake. He’s got one night to earn back her trust. One night to show her that behind his breathtaking skill and ripped body is a man who’ll give her everything she needs.

Review:

Hard Knocks in the intro novella to Lori Foster’s new martial arts series (featuring our beloved Cannon from the Love Undercover series in book one!) and it’s a lovely introduction indeed. The story is mainly about Gage and Harper, but we get to meet a few new characters (who I’m sure will have their own book in the future) and we get to see a bit of Cannon, too!

The romance in this was quite sweet. Gage and Harper have had a little bit of a history (which I like in novellas because  it makes the romance much less insta-love!) when Gage returns back to town because an injury. Harper is scared to throw her head and  heart all in after Gage seemingly ignored her for fighting. But now Gage has a second chance to show how much he actually cares.

It’s quite funny how both of them are too stubborn to admit how much they like each other, and instead kind mess with each other instead. I can’t really complain because it gave us some cute flirting, a little bit of jealousy and some steamy moments.

“There will be other fights, but honest to God, Harper, there’s only one you. All in all, I’d say I’m the big winner tonight.”

Overall, Hard Knocks was a quick and enjoy read and was a nice  introduction to the new series. Oh and I can’t forget about Armie! He’s sort of the goof-ball player who just can’t do nice girls. Already I can’t wait for more of Armie!

  1. This sounds like a good read, it is nice to read some light romance which isn’t too unrealistic 🙂

    1. Agree! This fit the bill perfectly (:

  2. For a moment there I thought you said ‘Arnie’ not ‘Armie’ and I was like OMG IS THIS AN ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER FANFIC OR SOMETHING AHHH?

Sounds like a night, light romance!

  3. I enjoyed this one too, and was glad the couple had history before the events in this book, and agree it made it feel genuine.
