Sunday Post (122) / Stacking the Shelves (102)

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Hello, Jackie here,

I haven’t been in the mood to read lately. Not sure if it’s because of the weather or something else entirely altogether, but I think it might be the latter. It’s funny because for the past 2 years since I got back into reading my favorite genre, I’ve been going through one book after another and trying to play “catch up”. Because of college I never had time to read anything fun, except for the insane amount of classics I had to consume for my literature classes. However, since I have an unlimited amount of reading freedom, nowadays, it gets to the point where I’m burnt out and some of the stories get dull after a while. Maybe I just need to take a 2 year reading break before jumping back in.

  1. I understand about needing a break from reading. I have been there. I just get burnt out on all the books. When that happens, sometimes I do try to reread a favorite if that helps. Otherwise, just feel free to take a break. Nothing wrong with that!

Here is my Sunday post: http://bookbinges.blogspot.com/2015/06/sunday-post-and-june-wrap-up.html

    1. I guess being burnt out is a part of this vicious reading cycle we readers go through occasionally. I usually do that too, but sometimes rereading old favorites stresses me out and ends up making me feel guilty that I’m not reading al the new books. Thanks for the tip Cynthia.

  2. Lol, I hope for you it won’t last 2 years, maybe you just need to enjoy your break or try to find another genre. Anyway, relax, have fun and have a great week 😉

    1. I hope not too! Thanks for the tip. Maybe I should try another genre. I keep thinking about it, but it’s scary to do so.

      1. Take some time off, browse Goodreads, see what other bloggers write about and what really attracts you, then… take a leap of faith and enjoy 😉

  3. I hope your reading slump passes soon as they are just no fun. Like Cynthia said above I usually reread an old favourite when that happens. Or try a new genre, you might just fall in love with that.

    1. Thanks Trish. True. Too bad we don’t have any antidote for these reading slumps that seems to come sporadically.

  4. I hate when you get into a reading slump. I agree with Cynthia and Trish ‘re reading some old favourites helps. Have a great week.

    1. Definitely. No one likes reading slumps. They’re just as bad as writer’s block.

I would suggest genre changing. Or go with the flow and don’t put a date on it.

    1. Thanks for the tips.

  6. I hope your slump passes, sometimes I get overwhelmed with books and the last thing I want to do is read, I just try and give myself a couple of days off.

Hope you have a good week.

  7. I totally get that reading slump! I remember back in mid-2014, I was churning out book after book after book EVERY. DAY. As in I had a 200 goal reading challenge on GR and I was always 30-40 books ahead. Then one day, I had a slump. I lost all motivation to read and blog and was hiatus for 2 months. Then my motivation to read came back once again and it was even better than before! All I can say is, don’t force it! Let it cool off then come back good as new 😀

  8. Smut… you need some good smut. I’m so kidding. Jackie – you just sound so sad today, I want to hug you or something! Maybe you need movies or tv to cleanse your palette. Eh, what do I know… I read smutty romance 😉 tee, hee!!

  9. I was in a slump a while back too- not fun. Changing it up does help sometimes. For me it takes finding that right book- then I’m going again. LOL. anyway good luck, and have a good week. 🙂

  10. Summer always causes a slump for me so hopefully that’s it for you as well. Also, having reading time can be a little overwhelming when you’ve been super busy for so long. Hopefully you’ll find something that grabs your attention very soon! Have a great week!

  11. Awww I know how it feels sometimes when you just don’t feel like reading. I hope you get your reading mojo back but for now, enjoy the weather!

  12. I really need to reread the Harry Potter series, its been too long.
