Teaser Tuesday: Holding up the Universe

What is teaser Tuesday? It’s a meme hosted by Books and a Beat (previously Should Be Reading).
Grab your current read, flip to a random page, share two teaser sentences, don’t include spoilers.

Holding up the Universe by Jennifer Niven
Paperback: 400 pages

Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers

“You are the most amazing person I’ve ever met. You’re different. You’re you. Always. Who else can say that except maybe Seth Powell, and he’s an idiot. You, Libby Strout, are not an idiot.”

“What you’ve just heard is the sound of my heart dying a swift and sudden death.”

This book made me realize how much I dislike characters being quick to judge others without you knowing them and their situation. You can read my review of the book here.

  1. Oh wow, I had to read your review of this book to understand the context around these quotes — this book sounds amazing!

  2. I haven’t ever read Jennifer Niven. I have All the Bright Places on my Kindle and almost chose it when looking for something to read next but picked something else instead. I have two this week: Coffin Road by Peter May and The Secret of a Heart Note by Stacy Lee. Both are from my review stack. Happy reading!

  3. Definitely curious now! Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “SHE CAN KILL”

  4. I’ve seen great things about this book! I haven’t read anything by Niven and I don’t know if I will (YA contemporary really isn’t my thing). I’m curious about her debut though, it was SO popular! 🙂

    Have a great week, Jackie!

  5. Quick to judge is even worse in real life. Happens all the time.

  6. I, too, had to read the review. I think I’d like this book. I think maybe my nieces would like it too. Here’s the link to my intro/teaser for today from Lamentation by C.J. Sansom: http://wp.me/p4DMf0-1oY

  7. I’ve been reading more YA books lately and enjoying them. This sounds like a good one to add to my TBR list.
My Tuesday post features a middle grade novel: TOO BIG.

  8. That’s quite a pep talk! I like it. 🙂 I am glad you enjoyed this one! Thank you for sharing.

  9. I’m curious about this one! I really love the first quote you shared. 🙂
