Weekly Wrap Up (20)

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap-up with Bookmunchies. This is our weekly update that combines Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer‘s SUNDAY POST and Tynga’s Reviews‘ STACKING THE SHELVES. This is a post to share news, to recap the week on the blog, share new reads and new books, and upcoming fun for the week ahead!

Hey guys, Jackie here,

Lately instead of reading I’ve been watching so many movies. I’m not sure if summer makes me be lazy about reading or some books just leave me feeling bleh lately because I’m not in love with the characters. I actually DNF (did not finish) a book the other and I’m not sure how I feel about that. For me,  I don’t often not finish a book even when the plot and the characters are cringeworthy horrible. Now that I think about it I tend to DNF a book more easily when I get sick. Anyways, speaking of movies I’ve seen La La Land, the new Beauty and the Beast live action, and Hidden Figures recently. Out of the three I really enjoyed Hidden Figures the most. Which is a little interesting because I don’t read biographies often, but I find myself watching a lot of biographical movies every now and then. Beauty and Beast surprised me because I thought I would hate it, but actually it was a lot better than I expected as it is not my favorite Disney animated movie, and I found La La Land to be ehhh.

Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones: DNF 2 of 5 stars

Nothing for this week…I’m trying to save money, but it’s very hard not to just browse around a book shop when there’s so many books you want to get…

  1. I’ve been watching more movies too. Lots of new ones. And I can’t wait for Shark Week. Plus Game Of Thrones is starting a new season. Also behind on writing reviews but plan to catch up on those the next rainy day.

    1. I tried Game of Thrones but couldn’t get past the first 5 minutes of it. Hopefully the new season is off to a good start for you.

  2. Oh no! I’m sorry to see that you DNFed Wintersong. I was looking forward to reading it, but I haven’t looked at any reviews for it yet. I also tend to DNF books more easily when I’m sick (which is pretty much all of the time). I don’t know why, I just do. Have a good week, and happy reading! 🙂

    1. Hope you like Wintersong better than I did whenever you get around to reading it.

  3. I definitely feel like summer makes me lazy when it comes to reading books. I’ve been going to see movies a lot too. I saw Wonder Woman last weekend, and this weekend I saw Spiderman: Homecoming. I still haven’t gotten to see La La Land. I really want to because I love musicals, but everyone I know that saw it, didn’t like it. lol. I saw Beauty and the Beast when it was in theaters and I enjoyed it but I felt like it took me a while to get into it. Hope you have a great week!

    1. Did you like Wonder Woman and Spiderman? Which one did you prefer more? I think I’ll be waiting until the DVD comes out for both movies. La La Land seems to be a hit or miss for a lot of people. The music and awkward dancing in random places just didn’t make it for me. And also the ending was pretty lame. I was hoping for more along the lines of My Fair Lady or The Sound of Music musical wise.

  4. Movies?! Ohhh did you watch Spiderman??!!

    1. No, but I want to. Have you seen it yet?

  5. Bummer about the DNF. I seem to go through phases when I get irritated quickly and DNF more frequently. I haven’t watched a movie in a long time though. I did watch Beauty and the Beast on the flight home from my recent vacation, but that was the only movie I have seen in MONTHS!

    1. I hope you enjoyed Beauty and the Beast and that it made time past quickly.

  6. I have a hard time reading in the summer. There are just other things I want to be doing. I loved Hidden Figures.

  7. Congrats on not hauling anything this week 🙂 I slipped and got into NetGalley on Friday…. Big haul. No self-control.

  8. I loved Beauty and the Beast!! My weakness is Hulu. I get started watching something, and that’s it. Have a wonderful week ahead!

  9. I’ve also been doing a lot of movie watching, but mostly old stuff I haven’t seen in a long time. I’m so happy you didn’t love La La Land. I thought I was the only one who thought it was overrated. Hidden Figures was phenomenal! I still haven’t seen Beauty and the Beast. Have a great week!

    1. Old stuff are always fun to rewatch. Yay! I thought I was the only one who didn’t like La La Land too. I was so disappointed with the ending. They could’ve made their relationship work along with achieving their dreams at the same time, but nope,

  10. I’ve been lazier in the last two summers than I’ve ever been. My everything has dropped, except for TV watching. It takes a lot for me to DNF a book. I still try to keep pushing on and finish them. Maybe you’ll come back to it in the future. Have a good week!

  11. Hidden Figures was such a good movie! Those ladies were brilliant, BRILLIANT and I aodred how well it did in the box office! Take that hollywood lol

  12. I really need to see Hidden Figures. Like you, I’m not typically a huge biography fan, but movies bring the story to life a bit more. And everyone raves about the movie.

  13. When I saw that it was Wintersong that you DNF’d I was sitting here nodding my head. I was pretty disappointed in that one. I was initially so excited (The Goblin King!) but ultimately it didn’t deliver for me. All the music composition talk went right over my head and bored me senseless. And it just all seemed so slow and plodding. I kept waiting for some excitement… but no. Hope your next read is much better!

  14. I’m a big DNF’er. I can just tell within 4-5 chapters if I’m going to like a book or not.
PS I LOVE your Instagram <3

  15. I don’t dnf very often and should probably do it more often. I haven’t really gotten behind in my reading this summer like I usually do. I hope I can keep it up but summer makes it hard to stay focused. I hope you have a great week!
